Individual Forearm Passing Drill

This is a individual passing drill that is intended to focus on learning the forearm pass and ball control with the forearm. This is a drill that can be done at home or in the gym during training.

Drill Setup

  1. Each player works on forearm passes on their own with a volleyball each. This will allow for the maximum number of contacts in a short period of time.

Drill Instructions

  1. Each player performs 30continuousforearm passes to themselves 30 times while not allowing the ball to touch the ground.
  2. Repeat the contacts for 30 times. This time every pass should go about 5 feet above the player's head.
  3. Repeat the contacts again for 30 times. This time, have the player make a 6 inch pass followed by a 5 foot pass and alternate between the each contact.
  4. Repeat the contacts again for 30 times. This time, have the player spin 90 degrees after each pass.
  5. Repeat the contacts again for 30 times. This time, have the player start in a low squat and touch the floor between each pass to themselves.

Drill Variations

  • You can increase or decrease the number of contacts based on the skill level of the players.
  • Make the players start over at 1 each time the ball hits the floor until they reach the set number of contacts.

Drill Coaching Points

  • Make sure each of the passes are performed with the forearms.
  • Knees should be slightly bent and player should be slightly bent at the waist.
  • Keep each contact consistent.
  • Repetition, repetition, repetition.
