Drill Setup

  • Players: Partners (2 players per ball)
  • Equipment: 1 volleyball per pair
  • Court Layout: Players stand 10–20 feet apart, facing each other.
  • The setter positions closer to the net.
  • The thrower stands about 10 feet away, ready to toss consistently.

Drill Instructions

  1. The thrower tosses the ball to the setter.
  2. The setter performs an overhead pass (set) back to the thrower.
  3. The thrower catches the ball and repeats the toss for controlled reps.
  4. Continue for 10–15 sets per round or 60 seconds before switching roles.
  5. Repeat with partners alternating as setter and thrower.

  • Challenge accuracy: Place a target zone for the setter to direct the ball consistently.

Drill Coaching Points

  • Emphasize footwork into position before setting.
  • Encourage setting with the entire body, not just the hands.
