Drill Setup- Players: 1 active passer with a line of waiting passers, 2 tossers
- Court: Half court, focusing on right-back to mid-court movement
- Equipment: Volleyballs
- Roles: Tossers initiate balls, passers move and execute passes before rotating
- Start with a passer in the right-back base position.
- Tosser 1 tosses a ball to the passer.
- After passing, the passer sprints forward to touch the tosser’s foot, then retreats diagonally back into the next base position.
- As the passer retreats, Tosser 2 tosses the next ball for the passer to handle.
- After the second pass, the passer sprints behind Tosser 2, then shuffles laterally across in a ready position.
- The passer receives another toss from Tosser 1, then backpedals into the waiting line.
- Rotate the next passer into the drill.
- Suggested reps: Each passer completes 2–3 full cycles (6–9 passes total), about 1–2 minutes of work per round.
- Reverse Direction: Run the same sequence starting from the left side.
- Blocking Addition: Add practice blocks when crossing the net before passing.
- Speed Challenge: Increase the tempo of tosses to demand quicker movement.
- Square to Target: Passers must face the target before contacting the ball.
- Stay Low: Keep knees bent and weight forward while moving.
- Footwork: Emphasize shuffling and controlled retreating instead of lunging.
- Balance: Maintain body control during forward sprints and backpedals.
- Common Game Situation: Prepares players for serve receive and defensive rallies that require quick movement between positions.
