This drill trains teams to focus on terminating the ball during serve receive situations. Drill Setup- Players: Two full teams (6v6 or adjusted for numbers)
- Court: Full court with normal rotations
- Equipment: Volleyball, net, scoreboard or counters
- Roles: One team serves, the other attempts to sideout; all rallies are live
- Divide into two full teams and rotate into standard game positions.
- Serving team begins the rally with a legal serve.
- Play out the rally normally.
- Scoring Rules:
If the receiving team wins the rally, they score 1 point and keep the serve.
If the serving team wins the rally, no points are scored, but the other team rotates to serve. - Teams may only score points by winning off serve receive.
- Play until a team reaches a set score (e.g., 15, 21) or for a set time limit (10–15 minutes per game).
- Double Points: Award 2 points for winning a rally off serve receive, 1 point for winning off a serve.
- Rotation Requirement: Teams must earn a certain number of points before rotating.
- Short Game: Play mini-games to 7 or 11 for quicker rotations and higher intensity.
- Terminate the First Ball: Stress the importance of attacking aggressively on the first swing.
- Serve Receive Discipline: A strong pass is the foundation of the offense.
- Setter Decision-Making: Encourage quick, smart sets to maximize termination chances.
- Communication: Constant talk between passers, setter, and hitters improves execution.
