This drill focuses on developing short, controlled serves that pressure opponents while enhancing defensive anticipation and reaction. Servers learn to deliver precise balls over the net, while passers practice reading serves and reacting explosively. The game-like scoring format adds intensity and competition.

Drill Setup- Players: 3 servers, 3 passers
- Court: Full court with passers starting on the end line opposite servers
- Equipment: Volleyballs
- Roles: Servers initiate play, passers defend and attempt to catch or pass the ball
- Three servers line up on one side of the court, facing three passers on the end line.
- Each server attempts to serve as short as possible without hitting the net.
- Passers must wait on the end line until ball contact, then sprint forward and try to catch the ball before it hits the ground.
- Scoring: The server earns 1 point if the ball lands untouched by the passer.
- After each attempt, passers must return to the end line before the next serve.
- Continue for a set time (2–3 minutes) before rotating servers and passers.
- Suggested Reps & Time Reps: 10–15 serves per server before rotation Time: 2–3 minutes per round; run 2–3 total rounds ?? This drill combines serving accuracy under pressure with defensive reaction speed—great for both sides of the net.
- Passing Target Variation: Instead of catching, passers must pass the ball to a designated target and remain in until they complete a set number of successful passes.
- Rapid-Fire Serving: Assign two passers per server and allow servers to serve in quick succession (every 3–5 seconds).
- Competition Mode: Track individual or team scores, rewarding servers for accuracy and passers for successful catches/passes.
- For Servers: Emphasize consistent toss, controlled contact, and aiming for zones just over the net.
- For Passers: Wait until the ball is served before moving; anticipate trajectory early.
- Movement: Encourage quick, explosive first steps from the end line.
- Game-Like Habits: Reinforce discipline in serve receive—players must always start ready and balanced.
- Competition: Use scoring to build intensity and keep players engaged.
