Drill Setup- Players: Equal number of players on each side behind the 10-foot line
- Court: Full court or half court depending on roster size
- Equipment: Volleyballs, net
- Roles: Players dig, set, and attack from the back row; coach initiates with free balls
- Coach initiates play with a free ball to alternating sides of the court.
- Teams must complete a sequence: dig → set → back row attack.
- After a player contacts the ball, they must run to touch the net before being eligible to touch the ball again.
- Rally continues with back-and-forth free balls from the coach.
- Scoring: Use rally scoring to a set number of points (e.g., play to 10 or 15).
- Suggested reps: Run 2–3 games of 8–10 minutes each, adjusting length based on team size and intensity.
- Add Blockers: Place one blocker per side to create more realistic rallies.
- Smaller Groups: Use fewer players per side to increase touches and movement.
- Time Challenge: Instead of rally scoring, see how many rallies teams can complete in a timed round.
- Movement: The fewer players per side, the more movement required—emphasize hustle.
- Communication: Players must call every ball loudly to avoid collisions.
- Consistency: Controlled digs, sets, and attacks are more valuable than hitting hard.
- Conditioning: Touching the net after every contact adds intensity and fitness.
- Common Game Situation: Replicates defensive rallies and transition plays where players must cover space quickly and stay engaged.
This is a great dynamic warm-up drill that blends ball control with conditioning, keeping players active and engaged before more advanced practice segments.
